SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Many drivers in Springfield are finding roofing nails in their tires after traveling on U.S. 60 just east of the U.S. 65 exit.
Dale’s Roofing Company in Rogersville says the leak came from a customer who buys materials from the business. The owner says they know the situation and are working on cleanup.
“We had to get our tire fixed this morning, and we travel through that area all the time,” said Melissa Harmon, who recently ran into tire trouble after driving near the Highway 60-65 interchange. I saw on Facebook a post that there were a bunch of nails out on 60 and 65 and that people were having trouble with flat tires.”
She put two and two together and assumes the damage came during her drive through southeast Springfield.
“We just had to have our tire plugged, and luckily, it was not expensive,” said Harmon.
Local auto repair workers say it’s unsafe to keep driving if a nail is in your tire.
“Unfortunately, a tire is made out of rubber and as a result of it a flat for any length of time will create damage,” said Tim Fess, Ricks Automotive. “If a tire gets punctured, it will eventually run flat and destroy itself.”
Tim Fess with Rick’s Automotive says to always pay attention to your tire pressure light and that if something is in your tire, you should most likely be able to hear or feel it while driving.
Dale’s roofing company says to call them if your tires develop problems after driving near the interchange and that cleanup is underway.
