JANESVILLE — The Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton school district will go to voters this fall to ask if it may use leftover money for projects including roofing updates.

The district was approximately $1.9 million under budget after it was issued a bond about a year and a half ago for indoor air quality dehumidification throughout the building.

Now that all of that work is done, Supt. Jeremy Erler said they want to use the leftover money in part for the roof update project.

“So what we’re asking the voters is for their permission for the school district to use that money in different ways we feel fit,” Erler said.

He added that part of the money also could be used for smaller projects and to potentially pay off a different bond early, though the district is waiting to determine if that would be worth it in the long run.

Erler also clarified the tax impact on voters.

“The one question that always comes up on all bond referendums is that it’s always stated in there that this will raise your taxes,” he said. “In this case it won’t raise your taxes because that money has already been allocated for, even though the law says that it has to state that it will raise their taxes.”
