MP for Jomoro constituency in the western region, Dorcas Afo-Toffey with a Queen Mother

The MP for the Jomoro constituency in the western region, Dorcas Afo-Toffey, has donated 200 roofing slates and 50 bags of cement to the Mpeasem Roman Catholic elementary school.

The building materials are expected to be used for the renovation of the primary school building, which was destroyed by a severe storm in 2019.

Since the incident, teachers and students at Mpeasem Roman Catholic Elementary School have been studying under trees and bamboo huts, and every time it rains, teachers and students have to interrupt the teaching and study service and go home.

Principal Joseph Eduah Erzoah, addressing the assembly, stated that when the incident occurred, the school board and principals informed the then Jomoro MCE and never received support from the Jomoro Municipal Assembly.

He also announced that in 2022 he informed Dorcas Afo-Toffey, who became MP for the region on January 7, 2021, of the situation and received a positive reassurance from her.

“I was transferred to this school as principal in February 2022 and got to know the deplorable school building here. Since then, our students have been studying under a bamboo shed, which is not good for academic development,” he said.

“I have been informed that the school board has written letters to then-Jomoro MCE, Ernest Kofie, asking for help and nothing good has come of the letters. I was informed once again that the chiefs and elders of the Mpeasem community informed the congregation and since then we have received no support from them,” he added.

He revealed: “Later in 2022 I personally called MP Dorcas Afo-Toffey and appealed to her to help the school and in fact she told us to wait for her to deal with her court case and lo and behold. She won the court case, called me and said she would help us and I told her we needed 200 sheets of roofing and 50 bags of cement.

So he commended the MP for fulfilling her commitment and prayed to God for rich blessings.

“In fact today I am very, very excited, Hon. Dorcas Afo-Toffey kept her promise, today she brought the 200 roofing sheets and the 50 bags of cement, I can say that the MP did well and I will pray “I would like to ask God to bless them abundantly and I will urge them to continue supporting us and helping other schools as well,” he explained.

Mpeasem-Enzimitianu MP John Ato Hayford commended the MP for the friendly gesture.

He emphasized that the deputies would be written to in front of the building as a sign of recognition.

“When we finish the renovation, we will write ‘Renovated by Dorcas Afo-Toffey’ in front of the school building, because when the incident happened, we informed the Jomoro Municipal Assembly and they never bothered about our help, as did the MP.” Dorcas Afo-Toffey “She provided us with 200 roofing slates and 50 sacks of cement and when we’re done with the renovations we’ll definitely have her name written in front of the school as a mark of appreciation,” he said.

He urged the good people of Mpeasem to rally behind the MP who is due for re-election in 2024.

For her part, Jomoro MP Dorcas Afo-Toffey said education is one of her priorities and she will continue to do her best to support education in Jomoro for the benefit of all.

She advised students to take their studies seriously in order to become important people in the future.

She took the opportunity to appeal to residents of the area to pray for them and to support her and John Mahama in winning the 2024 general election.

“I appeal to you to stand behind me in prayer and also to rally behind me and Mr. John Mahama to win the 2024 election and I promise you that when NDC comes to power in 2025 we will be more than that do, so support me.” She called.

In addition, the schoolchildren breathed a sigh of relief and promised to study harder.
