LIBERTY CENTER – Rex Lingruen Stadium is currently undergoing roof updates as the Liberty Center Local Schools district is in the process of repairing storm damage from earlier in the year.

Superintendent Richie Peters told the school board Monday that a spring storm caused more than $20,000 in damage to the stadium’s press box. These are costs that are covered by local insurance.

Peters said the district had a contract with Rupp Rosebrock, Inc. and it was reported that the company had started work on the stadium. Other work includes replacing shingles on the roof that are more than 30 years old.

“The equipment is already there, so that was the most cost-effective option,” said Peters.

Peters also noted that work is also being done on the roof of the old concession stand to bring it in line with the other structures.

“It’s showing signs of wear and tear and the shingles are past their useful life,” he said.

Any additional work added to the storm damage repair project will be funded from the county’s permanent improvement funds.

Peters said rehabilitation work on the projects has already begun and it is hoped the shingling work will be completed by the end of next week. He said work will be completed at that point before sporting activities resume at the site in August.

“All of the shingles will be the same color and will match each other,” Peters said of the structures in the stadium. “As a result, they also achieve a new life expectancy of 30 years. So that is the work being done out there for those who have noticed the activity.”
