The Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG), the largest independent trading group in the south of England, has acquired Roofing Gear, adding a further three branches to its specialist roofing division and giving the group a further £6m turnover.
Established 19 years ago, Roofing Gear has three strategically located offices in Yeovil, Dorchester and Poole offering a comprehensive range of roofing products, insulation and associated materials.
This latest acquisition provides IBMG’s umbrella division with further geographic coverage, greater product expansion and a strong platform for further growth. Culturally, both companies share a common vision, an independent ethos and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
The roofing dealer will continue to trade as Roofing Gear. Jeremy Gear remains with the company and works with Danny Spokes, General Manager of IBMG’s umbrella division, to ensure the company’s successful integration into the group.

With this latest acquisition, IBMG now owns 177 retail outlets across the country, including 13 roofing outlets from Chandlers Roofing Supplies and Independent Roofing Supplies. The IBMG branches serve more than 100,000 retail customers every week.
Roofing Gear was founded in 2004 by Jeremy Gear. The company’s first office was in Yeovil, followed by offices in Dorchester and Poole. In 2020, Jeremy was also appointed Chair of the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) Roofing Forum.
