Gillsville leaders approve roofing bid | News

The Gillsville Town Council approved a $13,750 bid to have a new roof installed at the restaurant and the town hall building located downtown. It also includes the removal of the old HVAC system.

The bid was awarded to Rylee Roofing. Councilman Kody Rylee pointed out that this company haS no affiliation to him.

In other business, the council:

•discussed future building inspectors. The one the town had been using recently passed away.

•discussed grass cutting bids. The council looked over bids for last year, made a few changes, and agreed to advertise.

•voted to dissolve the lighting committee for the Frankum Building.

•voted to allow the owners of property located at 6086 Hwy 52 to split the property into two parcels.

•heard from Mayor Dale that his wife, June, would be closing Granna Bees, a local business in

downtown. The Angry Hen will be opening in that building.

•heard from Tabitha Ellerbee who discussed a fundraiser benefiting a cancer patient, The event will be held at the town park on Memorial Day weekend. She said the fundraiser will include a kickball tournament and pickleball instead of a softball tournament. The event will also include barbecue plates and jumping houses.

•voted to allow the town council and staff to use the park and the Frankum Building one time a year at no charge. This has been allowed at the park building by previous administrations.

•discussed an increase in salaries of the mayor and council. They made a motion to approve pending consultation with City Attorney David Syfan.

•heard from Joseph Canada who updated the council on new emails and Facebook page.
