Thanks to recent sponsors Bob Hilson Roofing and the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, local students will be able to attend the South Florida Youth Symphony performance at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and then learn about the instruments from the award-winning musicians.
Bob Hilson Roofing and the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade have joined together to help sponsor South Florida Youth Symphony’s (SFYSmusic.org) unique “Inside/Outside” Concert on Feb. 25 at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Rd.
The performance, also sponsored by Fairchild and the City of Coral Gables, begins at 2 p.m.
Concertgoers can enjoy the performance either indoors in Fairchild’s Garden House or sit outdoors in the surrounding lush gardens nearby.
“Having Bob Hilson Roofing and Kiwanis join us as sponsors is simply outstanding,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “These are two organizations that care about the children of South Dade.”
As a result of the Hilson and Kiwanis sponsorships, children from several South Dade schools will be able to attend the concert and learn from the musicians.
“We think it is important to expose the children of today — tomorrow’s leaders — to this type of music and culture,” said Tibor Torok, Bob Hilson Roofing president. “This helps make them into well-rounded young men and women.”
One of the country’s leading youth music organizations, the SFYS will be performing their “Panama Tour Preview” program at the Fairchild concert. Nearly 50 musicians, instructors and chaperones will represent South Florida in a side-by-side concert with the Funsincopa Youth Orchestra in Santa Ana, Panama, in March.
In addition to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, City of Coral Gables, Bob Hilson Roofing and Kiwanis, the SFYS program operates with the support of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Miami-Dade County Mayor and County Commissioners, Children’s Trust, State of Florida Division of Arts & Culture, Miami-Dade County Office of Management and Budget, Kirk Foundation, Nancy Friday Foundation, and Miami Dade College North Campus.
The concert is free with a paid admission to Fairchild. Adult admission is $24.95 and senior admission is $17.95. Students (with ID) are $15.95 and Children (6-17) are $11.95.
Admission for children under 6, Fairchild members, active military and veterans is free.
