TYLER, Texas — Following a hail storm that swept through East Texas Sunday morning, homeowners may be in need of someone to fix their roof.

The Better Business Bureau Serving Central East Texas said it’s important for people to do their research and find reputable, local roofing companies. They suggest people get estimates from at least three companies before starting any work, never pay cash, never pay 100% upfront and never sign a contract that has any blank spaces in it.

The local BBB is also warning residents to be leery of roofers that come knocking at their door as they are often from out of the area and may not be around to guarantee their work.

Andy Albright, owner of Albright Roofing, said local roofing companies like his are invested in the local community.

“The guys like us that have local companies, we have been here since 2006, our kids go to school here. We are involved in the community. And if there are issues with your house going forward, we’re all right here to get right back on it,” Albright said. “Whereas those other companies won’t be.”

The BBB said people should expect to pay a trustworthy roofing company one-third of the cost upfront, another third when the job is at least 50 percent done and the final third when the job is complete and the customer is satisfied.
