An update on the Louise Junior High School plumbing project unanimously approved at the November school board meeting was discussed Monday.

After the school started experiencing back-ups and leaks four to six months ago, Seaman’s Plumbing of El Campo was contacted and found cracked pipes under the school after running a scope through them.

The extent of the repairs and cost is unknown right now, depending on what the plumbers find as they work.

“The way we see it you have to repair it for the long-term, instead of just putting a Band-Aide over it. Find all of the places that are messed up while they are here. I would say it’s probably close to being wrapped up,” LISD Superintendent Garth Oliver said.

Other items on the agenda included:

• No action was taken regarding the bus barn allowing board members more time to review different options.

• An independent audit report performed by Roloff, Hnatck of Victoria was approved with a unanimous vote. The report earned unmodified opinion, which is the highest level of assurance and found no instances of noncompliance with laws.

• District principals gave the board updated versions of each campus’ discipline ladders with changes that streamlined the process for lower level offenses which consist of horseplay, talking, etc.

• The district was awarded a $75,000 Technology and Lending grant from the state that covers individual student devices such as laptops, Internet access, and other electronic instructional materials. The district has not decided what it will spend the money on yet.

• Budget amendments were approved with a unanimous vote.

• Discussions on the superintendent contract, office space and Second Street superintendent’s house were all postponed until February.
