CHENNAI: Patients struggled for water availability Thursday and Friday after a water main burst at Government Raja Sir Ramaswamy Mudaliar (RSRM) Hospital.

Although hospital authorities tried to provide patients with adequate water, pregnant women and nursing mothers who were hospitalized had difficulty accessing the toilet.

“The pregnant women on different floors had to go to the ground floor after the pipe burst. The hospital had arranged the water supply via barrels, but pregnant women have to go to the toilet frequently, and it is not convenient with so many patients in the hospital,” said a cleaning staff.

The patients were concerned about the lack of water availability and asked the hospital management about it.

This appeared to have sparked heated arguments between the patients’ relatives and hospital staff on Thursday.

dr Shanthi Elango, director of the RSRM hospital, acknowledged the water shortage problem at the hospital and said the water supply had been restored as of 11am on Friday.

“There was a major pipe failure at the hospital. Plumbing work started immediately, but three disruptions occurred on Thursday and despite repeated repairs, supplies could not be restored. On Friday morning, the work was successfully completed and the power supply is working.” “We have attempted to provide the patients with sufficient water via tanks and drums to ensure that patients do not experience any inconvenience,” said Dr. Shanthi.
