With a winter storm headed toward the southern states, Mississippi is gearing up for a brutal week.

Twin States News stopped by Sander’s Air and Heat in Meridian to find out how people should prepare for the upcoming weather.

The owner, Chuck Sanders, gave a few tips on how to keep your water pipes from freezing.

“Pipes freezing is going to be a problem. Uh, a little bit of drip on some of your faucets will take care of a lot of problems. A little bit of water is not going to cost you much, to save a lot of plumbing, and just the pain and suffering of going through that.”

Not only should you be aware of the water freezing, but you should have some heat to make sure you don’t freeze yourself.

“Keep some heat going in each of your areas. It’d be great to have auxiliary heating at this point. Make up your mind that in the future you’re going to have some kind of a small gas heater that would work in the case of losing electricity.”

Twin States also asked a local man, Matt Brownwell, how he is preparing for this cold weather.

“Making sure we’ve got propane, that’s the first thing for sure, and uh making sure the water is on drip. You know, that’s important also that way we don’t get no pipes that break or nothing like that. Vehichles, just putting some stuff over the top of the vehicles that way you don’t get no frost or nothing in the mornings.”
