Moray plumbing apprentices mop up at awards ceremony

Apprentice plumbers from Moray College UHI made their mark at an awards ceremony in Glasgow.

Students from the University of the Highlands and Islands have won a record number of top prizes in the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year Awards at Glasgow Clyde College.

In the Lead category, Moray Council and Moray College UHI’s Shaun Wilcox demonstrated exceptional precision and dedication, securing the top spot. Marion Lisa Stewart of G&A Barnie Group Ltd and Moray College UHI took second place.

Moray College UHI’s Finlay John Macaulay took first place in the copper category of the competition after his impressive demonstration of his technical prowess.

Finlay Calder from Inverness College UHI emerged victorious in the new Renewable Energy category while Tommy Smith from Moray Council and Moray College UHI took third place.

Dale Thomson, Head of Apprenticeships at the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation (SNIPEF), said: “We are incredibly proud of the success of our apprentices from UHI.”

“Your achievements underline the exceptional quality of education and training at the university, which in turn reflects the excellent future prospects of our profession.”

“Their performance is not only a testament to their skills, but also shows the effect of dedicated and high-quality training in plumbing and heating in our country.”

“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to every trainee at UHI. Her achievements are a beacon of excellence and a clear demonstration of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication and a rigorous education system.”

“This achievement is commendable testament to the future of the Scottish plumbing and heating profession.”
