The initial alert was soon expanded to a building fire response. To fight the fire, firefighters routed a hose line to the outside of the house and another hose line to the inside of the house. Officials said other responders used thermal imaging cameras to search for victims. All residents were safely outside the home.

The fire, which extended to the second floor and attic, was declared under control at 8:49 a.m. An initial search of the home discovered four cats, which were returned to the homeowner.

According to the press release, the teams conducted salvage work to protect first-floor items from further damage and rehabilitated voids to determine there was no further fire. Damage estimates were not available at the time of publication.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department also responded under an automatic on-site assistance arrangement. During the incident, a Barrington ambulance was on call at Palatine Fire Station #82 to cover any further calls. Police officers from the Palatinate Police helped on site with traffic and crowd control.

The Palatinate fire brigade is reminding residents to have working smoke detectors in their homes, regardless of whether it is a single-family home, an apartment or a condominium.
