A Louisville plumbing company becomes the hero of a Valley Station church.

Last week, thieves ripped out the air conditioning unit at Southwest Assembly of God.

A manager at Dauenhauer Plumbing, Heating & Air saw the story on WLKY and rushed in to become a good Samaritan.

On Wednesday, Dauenhauer technicians arrived at the church and unloaded a giant box with a new condenser inside. It was donated and installed free of charge.

Normally, the A/C unit and labor would have cost more than $6,000, according to the company.

Randy Weeks, Southwest Assembly of God pastor, said he was driving down the road when he got a call from Chris Evans at Dauenhauer.

“He says, we called our manufacturer and worked it out where they were going to give a new unit. We’re going to put it in for free,” Weeks said. “I got so emotional I almost had to pull off the road. I said, ‘Brother, you’ve got to be kidding me.’ He said, ‘No, this is what we want to do.'”

Evans told WLKY News he needed help to make the donation happen.

“I reached out to our manufacturer, Goodman and Amana. We asked if there was any way they could donate a unit for the church and they jumped on it,” Evans said.

After some installation work in the summer heat, crisp, cool air once again filled the church.

Weeks says while he’s grateful to have the A/C back on, it’s the thought that counts and inspires.

“What this does for our church, it unites us and strengthens our faith, to be honest,” Weeks said.

To make sure the thief or thieves don’t break the eighth commandment a second time, Evans said a stainless steel cage will be placed around the new A/C unit.
