SWISSDALE — Atop the mountain ranges off the Coudersport Pike grows a fledgling business. Joshua Smith, has set out to start his 24-hour occupation in contracting, plumbing, excavating and more.

Having begun back in May, JS Contracting and Plumbing focuses on 24-hour service covering plumbing, HVAC systems, excavating and more. His extensive jack-of-all-trades experience has made him a reputable contractor to call.

“We get into a little bit of everything. I do HVAC, different plumbing, I put in septic tanks, sewage lines, I’ve built pool decks to small decks to little garages, pressure washing, cleaning gutters – a little bit of everything,” Smith said.

He started out working for his father who was a self-employed contractor and electrician. From there, he started to learn the tricks of the trade.

“It started out with my dad being a self-employed contractor and electrician. I worked with him a lot when I was younger, so I have quite a few years learning from him,” he said.

Following his stint working for his father, he earned an associate’s degree in welding from Triangle Tech in Dubois. Several jobs came afterward, helping him harness his skills.

“I got an associates degree through them, got out of there and worked on the railroad a little bit. I worked for Reading Crane and Engineering doing overhead cranes, welding for them. Went to the Union Pipeline for about 12 years,” Smith said.

During the off winter months while with Union Pipeline, he began doing plumbing for Bechdel Plumbing & HVAC, working with Duane Bechdel.

“I learned a lot from him, then decided to pick up on my own,” Smith said.

And with his experience, he was able to set out on his own, self-employed, and is hoping to help the community with their plumbing and contracting needs.

JS Contracting and Plumbing covers all of Clinton County and the surrounding counties. To set up an appointment or make an inquiry, call Smith at 570-660-8862 or email him at Jsplumbing2023@gmail.com. He is in the process of getting a website up and running.

“I do good work and I wouldn’t do anything I wouldn’t do at my own house. I do everything professionally… I’m just getting started and I hope people give me a chance,” Smith expressed.
