How an online plumbing ad led to carjacking and damaged police cruiser

A man was arrested in Stoughton after police said he stole a car Monday night and crashed it into a Boston Police Department cruiser.

The Stoughton Police Department received a report at 5:53 p.m. of a car being stolen near the intersection of Pierce Street and Leach Street near Halloran Park

According to the report, a man responded to an online ad asking for help with plumbing. When the man, who was in his 40s, arrived at the Stoughton address, there was no one there. The man called the prospect and said he would be there shortly.

However, according to police, a tall man wearing a white T-shirt approached the victim’s white Jeep Grand Cherokee. The man then showed his gun, threatened him and took his cell phone and wallet. According to police, the man then took the car and drove away.

Police officers used tracking technology to locate the car in Boston. The stolen jeep was found near the junction of Horadan Way and Cornelia Court in Roxbury, according to the WCVB.

Boston resident Junior Joseph, 34, was also driving the stolen car and hit a Boston Police Department cruiser, the news agency reported. Joseph was arrested when the car was stopped and a firearm was found during a search, police said.

Joseph was charged with multiple offenses, including unlawful possession of a firearm and reckless driving, WCVB reported. He is due to appear in Roxbury District Court on Tuesday.
