With peak dog walking season in full swing, Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric will be giving Denver’s furry friends an extra boost through its quarterly Caring Community Giveaway. Employees nominated three local nonprofits for a chance to win $5,000 for their cause. This quarter all organizations are focusing on “man’s best friend”, the dog.

The public has until Friday, May 24 to vote on Do Over Dogs, Freedom Service Dogs and Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue.

“We see our customers’ pets every day at work and know from our own furry friends how important they are,” said Josh Ward, owner of Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric. “When we can help someone with a service dog or find a permanent home for a rescue dog, we can make a difference for the animals we care about so much.”

Organizations participating in the Caring Community Giveaway this quarter include:

  • Do Over Dogs gives endangered dogs from shelters another chance and saves them from euthanasia. The organization relies 100% on volunteer foster families to raise the dogs until a permanent home can be found with adoptive families.
  • Freedom Service Dogs provides specially trained service dogs for veterans and people with disabilities such as post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, cerebral palsy, cognitive disabilities, and physical challenges due to illness and injury. The dogs help with everyday activities and allow their owners a new found independence.
  • Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue focuses on the care and rescue of the boxer breed. Through its rescue efforts, the organization is helping to bring the dogs back from starvation, abuse and abandonment. Ultimately, they work to find a loving forever home.
