Christie Salazar, Managing Director of Do Over Dogs, and Lindsey Rubens, Associate Director, came with dog Thunder to receive the donation from Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric.

Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric has announced Do Over Dogs as the winner of the Spring Caring Community Giveaway. The local nonprofit will receive $5,000 from Applewood to continue helping the loving dogs that come through their doors.

“We are honored and proud to present this donation to a great charity,” said Josh Ward, owner of Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric. “Our employees constantly encounter our customers’ pets during repair work. So it means a lot to us to be able to give back to our community and to have dogs with us.”

Inspired by the upcoming Furry Scurry event and regular interactions with these furry friends in the workplace, Applewood selected organizations focused on creating a better life for “man’s best friend.” Applewood employees submit nominations for the giveaway program.

This quarter’s giveaway was a fierce competition with a record-breaking number of votes deciding which dog-loving nonprofit organization would receive the grand prize of $5,000. Applewood employees selected three organizations to enter this quarter’s dog-focused sweepstakes. Freedom Service Dogs and Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue were the other two nonprofits nominated, along with Do Over Dogs. Both organizations will each receive a $500 donation from Applewood.

“We can’t thank you enough for being nominated for your quarterly program,” said Christie Salazar, executive director of Do Over Dogs. “We’re just impressed that we won. Our true passion is helping the sick and injured, so this is very special!”

Do Over Dogs of Broomfield specializes in giving at-risk dogs a second chance at life. The foster care based non-profit organization is focused on rescuing and rehabilitating dogs at high risk of euthanasia and providing homes for these lovely animals. They then have the opportunity to be adopted by their foster families and given a real chance at a new life in a new home and family. The organization has announced that the donation will be used towards a second operation for their amputee Doberman puppy, Maverick.

In its 50th year, Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric has donated more than $240,000 to charities in the Denver area over the past 17 years as part of its Caring Community Giveaway. The program has helped numerous small, local nonprofits make a greater impact throughout Colorado’s Front Range. To learn more about Applewood’s community efforts, visit www.ApplewoodFixIt.com.
