By giving your dishwasher a little care, knowing how to load it properly, and knowing what items to never put in it, you can maximize its life and make your money last longer.

If you want to save yourself costly repair bills or the upfront purchase of a new machine, listen carefully.

Here are five “surprising” items that could damage your dishwasher, according to RGBDirect.

Aluminum foil, non-removable labels, and metal should never go in the dishwasher

aluminum foil or metal objects

RGBDirect advises that metallic objects, including aluminum foil or metal containers with sharp edges, should not be placed in the dishwasher.

The device experts explain that these items can damage the inside of the machine.

They can also create sparks, which the experts say can be dangerous.

Extremely hot or cold objects

Also, avoid putting extremely hot items directly into the dishwasher and instead wait for them to cool.

This is due to sudden temperature changes that stress the components of the machine.

RGB also reminds dishwasher users that placing extremely cold items in a hot dishwasher can cause thermal shock and potentially damage the machine as well.

Plastics not suitable for dishwashers

You can hinder that Improve your dishwasher’s water circulation and cleaning performance by placing large or heavy items in the machine, such as baking trays or oversized saucepans.

How often should I clean my dishwasher?

Rosie Clarke, product training manager at Miele UK (miele.co.uk), spoke to PA News Agency about how often you should clean your dishwasher.

Clarke commented, “For dishwashers, the filter should be checked after each use to remove any food particles, pits or bone fragments, and rinsed under running water if it looks clogged or dirty.”

“Every few months, a dishwasher detergent should be run through the hot cycle to get rid of grease build-up or build-up in the lines.”

Once a month you should also take a look at the spray arms.

“If you notice dirt on the rubber nozzles, wipe it off with an old toothbrush and vinegar while giving the arms a thorough wipe to remove any residue,” Richard Howarth, large equipment expert at AO.com, told the PA news agency.
