The Hill has lost one of its most popular handy men. George “Skip” Charles Giddens Jr., of Skip’s Appliance Repair in Hyattsville, MD, died on November 4. He was 74.
Giddens was a proud United States Marine and veteran of the Vietnam War. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1965 and served as an Infantry Rifleman until he was Honorably Discharged in 1967.
After he returned home, Giddens went to work for Sears. It was there that he found his talent working with his hands as an Appliance Repair Technician. Giddens was employed with various companies over the years until starting his own successful business, Skip’s Appliance Service, which he owned and operated.
Skip’s Appliance Repair was the kind of business Hill residents would refer one another to in conversation. Many clients and friends had been wondering about Giddens, sending messages over community list servs to ask one another if they had been in communication with him.
Services will be held at Gasch’s Funeral Home (4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville MD) on Thursday November 14, with visitation at 11 a.m. and service at 12 p.m. Interment will take place following the service at MD Veteran’s Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
