Ross Library temporarily closed due to water damage | News, Sports, Jobs

LOCK HAVEN – The Annie Halenbake Ross Library is temporarily closed as it deals with water issues caused by Thursday’s thunderstorm.

According to a release from the library, the storm hit during roof repairs.

“Water poured in during the storm and afterward. The storm hit during roof repairs over the main adult collections,” the release said. “Some materials were lost, but most were saved due to the quick actions of the dedicated library staff.”

The library will be closed, at a minimum, from Friday, Sept. 8 through Monday, Sept. 11.

“Next week’s book sale will still take place, even if the building is closed longer,” the release said.

Executive Director Tammy Garrison offered her praise of the library’s staff during this sudden issue.

“The staff acted commendably during the emergency and all deserve the highest of praise,” she said. “While the main collection is affected, we are very lucky that relatively few books and other materials and electronics were damaged.”

Garrison also addressed community questions regarding how they may be able to help in the coming days.

“Several members of the community have asked what they can do to help, but the library will not know for several days what we will need,” she said. “A fund has been created for monetary donations toward restoration. Please watch our website and our Facebook page for more information.”
