There’s water, water everywhere. And when it’s inside a house or a business, that’s a big problem.
That’s why Bradenton-based Above and Beyond Property Improvement recently added a water damage restoration component. The company’s core services include kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, closet installation and reconstruction. The owners, John and Sharon Smyth, moved to Sarasota from Scotland and purchased the company in 2013.
The firm started handling water damage restoration in February, and is now known as Above and Beyond Property Improvement and Restoration. “What we now can do is go in, take care of the water damage and the demolition and put it back to together again,” John Smyth tells Coffee Talk.
Above and Beyond’s clients for water damage restoration, Smyth says, include roofing, plumbing and insurance companies; builders; property managers; and individual homeowners.
Homeowners with a leaky roof and wet walls might call a roofing company that refers them to Above and Beyond to take care of the damage. Those kinds of referrals, also from plumbers and air conditioning companies, are key, Smyth says. The company has also seen some early traction with new construction.
“What I like about this business is when you get a call, you’re going out and getting paid,” he says. People who call need the service — and need it fast. There’s not a lot of wasted time and effort giving clients estimates on projects that never pan out.
“You’ve got to be really dynamic and reactive,” Smyth says. “We have to be available 24/7/365. That’s just the reality of the business.” They’ve had to organize the business to be handle the increased demand, including adding a senior project manager with experience to head up water damage restoration efforts.
The company surpassed its goals for water damage restoration work in the first month, spreading the word about the expanded services, Smyth says, by harnessing social media, reaching out to clients and doing work for existing clients. “That’s where we’ve had some immediate success,” he says. “They already know us, trust us and like us.”
