City of Woodfin press release

The City of Woodfin wishes to inform residents of upcoming changes to Riverside Park in preparation for planned construction for the Woodfin Greenway Blueway project. For several years, the city has been planning to rebuild and expand Riverside Park, which will include river access, park pavilions, play and viewing areas, and new restrooms. A river whitewater facility known as Taylor’s Wave is also planned and will offer unique recreational opportunities for kayakers and paddlers of all skill levels. Construction of these facilities is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2023, and the city will begin preparing the site for construction mobilization.

The first step in site preparation is the removal of some trees and the demolition and removal of an unoccupied building on the site. The trees identified for removal are located on the riverbank adjacent to Riverside Drive where the whitewater wave facility is planned to be constructed. The trees must be removed before April 15 to circumvent the current moratorium on the endangered gray bat. Removing the trees now will help keep the project on schedule and allow other work on site to begin in the fall.

Questions or comments can be directed to Woodfin Town Hall at 828-253-4887.
