A small section of a tree on a railway line brought traffic through Kent to a halt tonight.

Just after 5pm, Southeastern tweeted about a “tree” on the route at Kearsney, meaning services between Dover Priory and Shepherds Well are being delayed and may be modified or cancelled.

However, the service provider has now tweeted a picture of the obstacle on the route, which was actually not a tree but a branch.

“We are making arrangements to move the tree as soon as possible,” Southeastern tweeted at the time.

In their most recent tweet, Southeastern bosses say the “tree” has now been removed, allowing the trains to start moving again.

“The tree in Kearsney has been removed and traffic is resuming in both directions,” the tweet said.

“The first service is at 6.23pm from Dover Priory to Gillingham.

“Many thanks to our driver and conductor who removed this tree quickly and efficiently and allowed us to reopen the Canterbury East Line.”

Passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more can request compensation through Southeastern’s website.
