The latest initiative – which in this area saw a team of volunteers from Manorlands hospice at Oxenhope collect trees post-Christmas from addresses, in exchange for a donation – raised £36,100.
During the operation — covering parts of Airedale, Wharfedale and the Dales – 2,400 trees were collected.
The charity also staged five similar schemes in other regions.
In total, 7,196 trees were collected and £118,982 donated.
The Airedale, Wharfedale and the Dales ‘Christmas Treecycling’ initiative was open to people in the postcode areas BD13-18, BD20-24, LS29 and HX2, 3 and 7.
All the trees will be chipped and used to create renewable energy fuel for biomass burners, or for habitat restoration.
Andrew Wood, community fundraising manager at Manorlands, says: “We want to thank everyone who signed-up and helped our ‘Christmas Treecycling’ scheme to grow.
“As Sue Ryder continues to battle increasing costs to deliver its care, and with the number of people needing our help predicted to rise, people’s support this new year is more vital than ever so that we can continue to be there for more people at the most difficult times of their lives.
“The Sue Ryder Treecycling scheme is run entirely by ‘volunteer power’ and our appreciation goes to our partners Skipton Self Drive and Keighley Tree Services and all the businesses and groups which helped out with the collection this year.
“Around 75 volunteers offered their time to support the collections, and without them we couldn’t have raised such an amazing amount of money.”
Last year, Sue Ryder provided palliative care to thousands of families across the country – including from Manorlands hospice.
Manorlands supports patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families at the hospice and in the community, across an area covering Craven, Airedale and Wharfedale as well as parts of Bradford.
Sue Ryder also offers bereavement support through an online community forum, free counselling service and personalised text provision, and at Grief Kind Spaces – weekly drop-in sessions held at locations including Skipton and Bingley, as well as in other parts of the country. The sessions, run by trained volunteers, are open to anyone over 18 who has experienced a bereavement.
