Volunteers collected 1,500 trees from around South Wiltshire

The annual collection and recycling scheme for South Wiltshire’s Christmas Trees, in aid of Salisbury Hospice, has raised £30,000.
The record breaking amount also saw their highest number of trees picked up, with 1,500 taken away from homes over three days.
Volunteers in 33 vehicles toured registered households, who donated to the cause in return for the collection after the festive season.
The trees were picked up from across South Wiltshire and the Test Valley, in return for a donation
The money raised will allow patients at Salisbury Hospice to have dignity and choice in their final days; providing support to families, carers and friends, and ensuring that comfort and advice is given at every stage of the dying process.
Every year, Salisbury Hospice cares for up to 1,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses and its services are free of charge to everyone who uses them.
Annually, Salisbury Hospice Charity needs to raise £1.5 million of the £2.9 million required – to maintain the vital palliative care services at the Hospice.
This year, Salisbury Hospice Charity will also be donating 10% of profits raised to The Salisbury & South Wilts Scouts.
In addition, the collection also helps the environment through giving the trees as food for alpacas and goats, or chipping them thanks to the efforts of several local tree services.
Chippings are then used as mulch or reinforcement of footpaths across local farms.
The collected trees have been chipped up for animal feed and mulch for local farms
