Crews tell Newswatch 16 it could always be worse.
LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — There was no sleeping in on Monday in a Luzerne County neighborhood. Don’s Tree Service workers were busy cleaning up a downed tree in Jenkins Township, left behind by this weekend’s weather, before moving on to the next.
“We’re getting calls left and right. I mean, Donnie has been running around looking at tree work for the past two weekends now,” said Jessica Bly, working with the crew.
“Wind added a different challenge to the job here, puts us back off our normal schedule, and adds a lot more work than what we already have,” explained owner Don Bly.
Luckily for homeowners in the area, the damage this crew has run into over the last few weeks has not been severe.
“Some little storm damage here, small trees down, branches down, nothing really major with this storm. Yeah, more of like a headache stuff for homeowners,” Don Bly said.
This week’s below-average temperatures add insult to injury for these workers who have to work outside.
“Warming up initially, trying to get out of the truck because usually it’s a heat blast, and so as soon as you get out, it’s kind of like you’re trying to get rid of the shell, so you really got to move around,” said Jessica.
“It definitely makes things a little bit more challenging, especially in the cold everything’s cold. Everybody knows that nothing works right when it’s cold. Things are hard to start. Hydraulics move slower. The guys move slower. So, cold definitely puts a damper on some things,” added Don.
Despite the challenges, this crew says it could always be worse.
“It’s not bad around this time of year. I’d rather be out in the snow than in the rain. So, I really appreciate the cold,” Jessica said.
