This is the moment a giant black bear fell from a tree as it was being pacified after hours terrorizing a neighborhood stealing steaks from the grill. Utility worker Chris Bertrand, 40, was at home when police warned him there was a large bear in his tree. Police urged Chris and other neighbors to stay indoors as the black bear ran amok through the streets for two hours. It was first spotted a few blocks from Chris’ house, running through the yard, interrupting a cookout and climbing the tree in his yard. The bear was calmed down by one of the officers and, after being dazed, fell out of the tree like a rag doll. The bear was first spotted by a neighbor of Chris’s around 7pm on Sunday 25th. Chris, from Darlington, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA, said: “It disturbed a cookout a few blocks away.” It is even said to have stolen a steak from the grill. It ran into a garden and then climbed over the tree into mine. “It’s the first bear anyone in the neighborhood has seen. It’s a big deal. He was in the tree.” The police had their guns ready and drugged him. I could see he was getting sleepy about 20 minutes later, at one point he was holding onto his front claws.” The bear was such a rarity that police and animal welfare services cordoned off the entire neighborhood. Chris estimates he saw six to 12 police cars, an animal control van, two to four Department of Environmental Management officers and two veterinarians. He added, “I think they handled it well.” I have a nine-year-old daughter, so I think they did the right thing. “I’m thinking about bears now, even if it’s just about me. Sometimes I come home very late and it’s dark. There are more sightings every day.”
