Any arborist will tell you how valuable trees can be for the environment. Trees provide relief from the sun, nurture friendly wildlife and help turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. But what happens when a tree’s poor health threatens your house or becomes dangerous to you or your family?

Tackling tree removal is often not something that the everyday homeowner can or should do. The simple answer is to call an expert, and Hooters Tree Service in Culver is that expert.

Owners David Flosenzier, Paul and Sherri Flosenzier, and John and Barb Dienhart, purchased the business from previous Owner Bill Bailey.

“We purchased the business in 2022 as Bill was retiring to do more fishing,” Sherri says. “It went hand in hand with our existing business, Paul’s Logging and Wood Products.”

Bailey owned Hooters Tree Service for 21 years before retiring. That legacy is something the new owners want to continue. They bring experience, professionalism and full certification to demonstrate they know what to do. Whether the job calls for trimming, topping or full removal, Hooters professionals are ready to solve tree-related problems for property owners.

“We are a local, family-owned business who takes pride in their work and having a happy customer,” Sherri says.

The staff is certified and trained for both commercial and residential tree service. Having certification ensures that the company has been trained and evaluated to meet industry quality and safety standards, and also ensures knowledge about proper tree care.

Confirming certification when hiring a tree service helps to ensure a professional and optimal result. Certification also means the company has experience to do the job safely.

In addition to helping property owners determine if a tree is thriving or dying, customers can stock up on firewood, get trees trimmed, have a lot or fence line cleared, or get rid of stumps through the company’s stump grinding and removal service.

Property owners may also need help removing fallen limbs or trunks after storm damage. Hooters is available to respond to these emergencies too.

“We are available 24 hours a day,” Sherri says.

Sometimes trees don’t have to be cut down. Potential solutions can include trimming away damaged branches, topping a tree, or taking other steps to reduce possible damage.

Hooters Tree ServiceTopping a tree requires the removal of the central stem, which is referred to as the leader. While this can be damaging to a tree if not done properly, its main purpose is to reduce the size of the tree. According to the International Society of Arboriculture, this is most often done because the tree has become too large for a property. A second reason is that the size of the tree may be considered a hazard to people or a property.

Hooters provides free estimates for all tree services. This ensures that the customer knows the cost of tree removal or other services before crews arrive. It also gives Hooters a chance to make sure the customer understands the process and the scope of work.

When removing a tree, the staff’s goal is to “make it look like we were never there, other than not seeing the tree,” Sherri says.

Great communication with customers is one of two priorities when it comes to Hooters Tree Service’s customer service philosophy. The other is to do their best to make sure the customer is completely satisfied.

While trees can be damaged in any season, spring and fall are peak times for service calls.

In spring, weather conditions are usually less severe and winter damage can be safely removed, whether the issue involves branches and limbs or the entire tree. When the tree is losing its leaves in the fall, damage caused by disease and insects over the summer can be more easily observed, and compromised branches can be trimmed to avoid becoming a danger during harsh winter conditions. A fall trim also helps to improve the tree’s exposure to sunlight.

There are some signs to look for, in order to know it’s time for service, Sherri says. These can include cracks in the trunks of trees, and dead limbs. A tree that is in distress may also exhibit dead leaves falling to the ground outside of the fall season. Decaying bark is also a signal that the tree needs attention. A third sign is exposed roots, Sherri says.

Some tree species are simply more vulnerable to becoming unsafe. These include fir, pine and cherry trees, Sherri says.

When answering calls for service, Sherri says the Hooters professionals face challenges on site. They need to be aware of the location of overhead power lines. Another common obstacle to consider is buildings within a work site. To offset these challenges and other inherent dangers to the job, Hooters looks for evidence of damaged property, and uses industry safety measures.

“We check the surroundings, make the plan to proceed with the job, and use the proper equipment to complete the job,” Sherri says.

Hooters is based in Marshall County but serves property owners in surrounding counties. This service area includes Starke, Fulton, Kosciusko and St. Joseph counties.Hooters Tree Service

The Hooters team is continuing to make their services even better. A new bucket truck has been added to the company’s fleet. It can extend their reach to 75 feet off the ground.

“Our new truck will help us better serve our community and customers,” Sherri says.
