A Florida man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a neighbor who was doing yard work near the property line between their houses.

Brian J. Ford, 42, was trimming trees along a fenced property line in DeLeon Springs, Florida on Sunday evening, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Ford’s neighbor Edward S. Druzolowski,78, exited his own home and confronted Ford about the yard work.

Druzolowski told police that he asked his neighbor to leave the property and Ford responded by telling Druzolowski to mind his own business.

According to Druzolowski, Ford said, “You are pointing a gun at me, are you going to shoot me?” after he pointed his weapon at him.

When Ford remained on the property, Druzolowski said, “Stop right now or I’ll shoot,”  ABC News reports.

Druzolowski told the police that Ford remained on the property and was approaching him.

“That’s when he pulled the trigger for the first time,” the police said. While the gun could hold six rounds, Druzolowski claimed that the first two were empty.

“He stated Brian heard the gun click and continued to advance towards him, so he pulled the trigger the second time. He advised this time the firearm went off and he shot Brian,” the police report said.

Druzolowski’s wife told 911 dispatchers that he “just meant to scare” Ford, according to ABC News.

The 78-year-old said that he did not have a history of conflict with his neighbor but that he was frightened by Ford’s “reputation.” Druzolowski added that he had osteoporosis and that being pushed to the ground could cause him pain, ABC News reported.

Druzolowski is being held without bond on charges of second-degree murder.
