Emergency services were called after a car collided with a fallen tree as high winds battered the Lancaster District.

Ambulances, police and fire services were called to the A683 Lancaster Road in Caton, near the Scarthwaite Hotel, on Tuesday evening.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said a car collided with a fallen tree. He said there were two injured who were being examined by paramedics at the scene.

The fire department was alerted around 9:30 p.m.

Several trees had fallen in the area, blocking the road.

The road was closed until Wednesday morning and detour routes were put in place.

A fallen tree also blocked the B6254 at Bainsbeck in Arkholme on Tuesday evening.
