A driver was killed in Kansas City Friday night while attempting to exit his vehicle.

A driver was killed in Kansas City Friday night after his vehicle “suddenly accelerated” and slammed him into a tree, according to police.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the driver of a black Ford F-150 attempted to exit his truck in front of an apartment complex near Block 8700 of E. 61st Terrace. While the driver was still partially inside, the truck swerved out of a parking space and into a tree line, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department.

According to police, the vehicle was still in motion.

The emergency services responded and found that the driver was still dead at the scene of the accident.

According to the agency, officials are still investigating the crash.
