Washington, D.C – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement sentencing the person responsible for the trial of the Pittsburgh Tree of Life massacre:

“Today’s verdict holds accountability for the person responsible for the deadliest act of violence against the Jewish community in American history. This clear conviction – guilty on all 63 counts, including hate crimes – is a clear rebuke of the hatred and anti-Semitism that motivated the defendant to target Shabbat morning worshipers in three communities: Tree of Life, Dor Hadash and New Light.

“To achieve a full measure of justice for the 11 believers who lost their lives and injured six others, we must continue to work to root out the anti-Semitism that plagues our nation and our world to this day. Anti-Semitic Incidents in the United States reached a new high in 2022, four years after this attack. We owe it to those who lost their lives, the members of these communities and the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and beyond to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

“I pray for the families and loved ones of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax and Irving Younger. May their memories be a blessing.
