NAPA VALLEY, CA — St. Helena and Calistoga residents who need to dispose of dried-out Christmas trees are in luck because your local Boy Scouts will pick them up this Saturday, Jan. 6, for a small fee.

Boy Scout Troop 1 is recycling the trees, which must be stripped of all ornaments, nails, tinsel and tree stands, and then left at the curb by 8 a.m. Saturday. The troop is not picking up fresh garlands or wreaths as part of the service.

A donation of $10 per tree is suggested in St. Helena. Residents need to purchase a tag at one of three local businesses —Sunshine Foods, Steve’s Hardware, or Central Valley Hardware in St. Helena — then fasten the tag to the tree before setting it out at the curb. All donations support Scouting activities.

In Calistoga, a donation of $15 (or more) is suggested. The troop will pick up trees within the Calistoga city limits only. For Calistoga residents, it is also suggested they schedule their pick-up the day before —Friday, Jan. 5 — on the website Trooponenapavalley.org by clicking where it says “Donate and Schedule Pick-Up.”

All trees will be chipped and recycled by Britton Tree Services, Inc.

The Troop expressed its gratitude to Joe Branum Tree Care for its help with this program.

St. Helena’s Troop 1 — currently celebrating its 100th anniversary — normally meets from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at Scout Hall on Railroad Avenue.
