SIMIAN’s new Roofing Training Center in Pitt Street, Warrington hosted a successful launch event on Thursday 18th May where we showcased our new facilities and brought together prominent companies with SIMIAN employees and trainees. The centre, which is a short walk from Warrington’s regional and mainline train stations, is ideally located to meet the training needs of the area’s roofers.
The event was attended by many representatives of the roofing industry, including employers with trainees who are either currently being trained at the center or will be doing so in the future.
The official opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Simon Hughes, Managing Director of SIMIAN, who also addressed the guests alongside Operations Director Dave Randles and Jackie Thomason, Commercial Director at SIMIAN.
Ruth Scarrott, Head of Careers at NFRC, also spoke and described how important the new training center will be for the future of the roofing industry. She explained that the Pitt St. Center will fill a gap in the Northwest’s scarce educational opportunities and help end the current skill shortage in the industry.
Guests enjoyed live roofing demonstrations from BMI Group, as well as live training from SIMIAN’s current year of roofing apprentices, led by Luke O’Gorman, SIMIAN Roofing Program Manager. The event also featured exhibitions from a number of companies and organizations including CITB, Lancastria and Velux.
Speaking about the event, Luke said:
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the event, particularly CITB, NFRC, BMI Group, Lancastria Group, Velux and the North West Roofing Training Group, who all contributed to the success of the event a complete success.
We are very excited about the prospects of the new centre. Originally, the concept was to limit the training offered to apprenticeships in the field of roofing slate, roofing tiles and waterproof membranes. However, shortly we will be announcing a commercial roofing training portfolio that will initially be based in Warrington before being rolled out to other centres.”
