A roofing products manufacturer headquartered in Portland, Oregon is planning an expansion into Indiana. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report Malarkey Roofing plans to invest $200 million to build a manufacturing plant in Anderson and create up to 200 jobs.

Plans call for a 300,000-square-foot plant that would house two production lines on a 157-acre plot of land along State Road 109, according to the publication.

The company is requesting a voluntary annexation of the land by the Anderson City Council, which is expected to hold a public hearing on Thursday.

“We want to support the community and want to be where people want us to be,” Malarkey President Dale Rushing said during a meeting with residents last week. “We wanted an Indiana location to reach new markets. Indiana is a strategy for us to grow. We looked at a lot of potential sites. We made the decision to be in Indiana.”

Greg Winkler, executive director of economic development for the city of Anderson, said if all approvals are met, construction could begin this summer and take two years to complete.

Winkler told residents he visited Malarkey’s manufacturing plant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, which the Anderson plant would be modeled after, and noted no emissions or odors coming from that plant.

Plans also call for infrastructure improvements in the area, including two entrances along SR 109, a redesign of 67th Street to handle increased traffic and a new rail spur to deliver materials to the plant.

Malarkey Roofing was founded in 1956 and operates manufacturing plants in Portland and Oklahoma City, as well as South Gate, California and Williamsport, Maryland.
