Roofing imposter scams Minnesota homeowners

Severe weather events like storms, tornadoes and flooding often bring out the best in people, as strangers reach out to help others in need.
Unfortunately, the aftermath of a crisis also brings out contractors taking advantage of those who have already been victimized. Better Business Bureau warns of “storm chasers” who solicit business right at your front door.
A recent scam in Minnesota shows the dangers of hiring solicitors without doing research.
Keyprime Roofing & Remodeling, a BBB Accredited Business based in Golden Valley, is a victim of an impostor scam. And Twin Cities homeowners are also getting duped. Con artists, claiming to be this legitimate company, showed up on doorsteps to solicit homeowners with fraudulent copies of Keyprime’s flyers and invoices, offering to do repairs on damaged roofs.
After some initial bids, homeowners report that the impostors found more “damage” and demanded thousands of dollars to complete the additional repairs.
“At Keyprime Roofing, our ethos is deeply rooted in integrity, transparency and an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction,” said Vasiliy (William) Shvets, Keyprime Owner & CEO. “In light of the recent unfortunate scam incidents, we urge homeowners to verify company credentials, ask for written contracts, and avoid cash payments.
“At Keyprime Roofing, we are committed to preserving the trust of our customers and the integrity of our marketplace. It’s not just about repairing and replacing roofs; it’s about building enduring relationships grounded in trust and respect.”
There are some things you should always do when hiring a contractor for any project, such as getting three estimates, having everything in writing, and paying with a credit card.
