A Sarasota woman has pleaded guilty to attempting to avoid paying federal income tax on more than $1 million in earnings from her Port Charlotte roofing business.
Olga Dedovets pleaded guilty April 5 to one count of making a false statement in a 2017 tax return, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Florida in Tampa says in a news release.
Dedovets co-owned and helped to operate Suncastle Roofing in Charlotte County, court records show.
According to the plea agreement, Dedovets admits she willfully made a false statement in her 2017 tax return. Prosecutors say she failed to report more than $1 million in income that year from the roofing company.
Most of that income was concealed in bank accounts which Dedovets did not report to the tax preparer, the news release says.
Dedovets could face up to three years in federal prison. As part of a plea agreement, Dedovets will also be required to pay all back taxes from 2015-2017, court records show.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
