Deep in the heart of Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, the thunderous drumming of hail is no stranger, a familiar but awe-inspiring soundtrack that accompanies the region’s annual hailstorm season. Nicknamed “Hail Alley,” this part of the state often falls victim to nature’s frigid onslaught. Hailstorms can cause significant damage to the region, its infrastructure and the landscape.

However, homeowners are most concerned about property damage. Because of their function, roofs are the hardest hit, often resulting in costly repairs. For homeowners whose homes are regularly bombed — like the homes on Hail Alley — damage repair becomes a particular challenge.

“Every year two to three large hailstorms blow through here. That’s why Dallas Fort Worth is the roofing mecca, so to speak,” explains Ryan Conley of RYCO Roofing. “People have moved here to get into the storm damage restoration business. The day after such a big storm, the roofers break out. It gets really messy.”

The chaos after a storm is a test by fire for roofers. When the hail stops, the race begins. Homeowners are looking for reliable contractors who can repair damaged properties quickly and efficiently. In a company where people often feel vulnerable and insecure, the disruption Conley envisioned was incredibly simple: his company would become the company people trusted the most.

“There is just a lot of fraudulent activity going on and there is no license or responsibility. “You could buy a ladder and start a roofing business in one day,” he explains. “So I try to build my brand like Dallas, Fort Worth’s most trusted roofer.”

Conley also has a unique professional history. After playing drums in two bands signed to major labels, he found what he felt was reasonably successful as a musician before deciding to give it up and join the military.

.

“I always wanted the military to be a part of my life story. When I felt like the window of opportunity was closing, I decided to leave the band and join the military,” he recalls. After a stint as a civilian contractor and even in sales, Conley found roofing at a challenging time in his life.

The story goes on

“I knew nothing about roofers and construction. It’s just something I fell for,” he says. “But once I started, I realized that the industry needs someone who is reliable and trustworthy. The industry was just full of people trying to make a quick buck.”

On his journey from heavy metal to home improvement, Conley discovered he could offer the industry something that was badly needed – authenticity. With genuine concern for people, he decided to help homeowners deal with the aftermath of hailstorms and literally give them a roof over their heads.

“I care about my homeowners. If something goes wrong at a job, I take it personally. It’s something that touches me,” says Conley. His philosophy goes beyond the superficiality of a transaction; He understands the sense of security that a strong, reliable roof can bring.

“Having a leaking roof, having a roof with no shingles, it affects the psyche, it affects how you feel not just about your house but your preparedness in general.” When he’s fixing someone’s roof, Conley and his team know they’re bringing a sense of security to the homeowner and his family. A good job makes the customer feel safe at home.

Conley’s approach has also proven valuable when faced with external challenges. In June 2020, amid widespread uncertainty, Conley saw an opportunity for growth. “I felt like this was the right time for me to expand. And my thought was, hey, this world is going crazy anyway. Now’s the best time to take a risk, isn’t it?” His risk paid off and Conley found his business prospered as more and more people tried to secure their homes amidst the chaos.

Conley has his eye on the future and plans to continue strengthening the RYCO Roofing brand and reputation in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While roofing jobs may not be as glamorous as the rock world or as adrenaline-pumping as military service, Conley has found a way to make his own and bring his brand of authenticity, dependability and cool flair to the roofing industry.

“We’re 95% residential and that’s by design. We want to be like your normal person. Right now we’re just set to work with people,” says Conley. “We are very customer-oriented. Anyone struggling with something stressful, like replacing a roof, wants someone who is knowledgeable and empathetic, so we are here for them.”
