When
tasked with roofing a newly constructed industrial warehouse facility
to serve the Midwest, Versico didn’t have to look very far for product.
The 45,000-square-foot facility in Joliet, Ill., is the new home of the
Versico’s VeriWeld 16-foot TPO membrane, so it only seemed fitting that
veteran commercial roofing contractor Weatherguard Roofing, Inc. wanted
to use it.

Installers recommended a Versico induction welded TPO
system for the roof, primarily because Versico’s VersiWeld TPO roofs
provide excellent long-term protection and induction-welded systems that
help roofers save labor during installation, said Weathergaurd Roofing
President Roger Wahl.

“Less seams, less work and that makes all the guys happier,” said Chris Parks, a foreman with Weatherguard Roofing. “As far as difficulties with the 16-foot-rolls, there really weren’t any.”

Crews
further increased productivity by using Versico’s new 16-foot-wide TPO
sheets on the project so there would be fewer rolls to install and fewer
seams to weld.

“Less seams, less work and that makes all the guys
happier,” said Chris Parks, a foreman with Weatherguard Roofing. “As
far as difficulties with the 16-foot-rolls, there really weren’t any.”

The
contractor also used two layers of 2-inch-thick VersiCore® Polyiso
Insulation; HPVX Fasteners and RhinoBond® plates; and they installed the
16-foot-wide .060 VersiWeld TPO membrane by induction welding them to
the RhinoBond plates.

WeatherGuard Roofing used RhinoBond plates and HPVX Fasteners to ensure a tight seal for the roof.

Judging
from the positive overall experience, the contractors said they’d
likely use the larger TPO rolls again for a similar system install.

“After
using the 16-foot rolls on this project, we realized we were able to
lay more roof down in the same time frame,” Wahl said. “The welding is
the same, the way they lay out the sheets is the same, they’re just
getting more coverage area every day they do it.”

Trying out and adopting new technology on the market is nothing new for the Weatherguard team.

“They’re
really good at finding ways to improve their productivity while
maintaining a high level of quality,” said Dan Schmidt, sales rep for
Comstruct Sales. “For them it was a no brainer to give the 16-foot rolls
a try. The crew was happy, the owner was happy, everyone was thrilled
with the results and the productivity they saw. They’re definitely going
to use 16-foot rolls again.”
