A civil lawsuit involving a Stanfold city property owner and a New Auburn roofing contractor is in mediation more than a year after the original lawsuit was filed, but is scheduled to go to trial in June 2023, according to Barron County records of the district court.

The case involves plaintiffs Brant and Stefanie Rinehardt, 1427 24th Ave., Rice Lake, and defendant, Bjorkstrand Metal Roofing, Inc., 21951 County Hwy. DD, NewAuburn.

In documents filed in February 2022, the plaintiffs claimed they paid the defendant $22,000 to have metal shingles installed on the roof of their home. The plaintiffs said the work did not meet commercial or manufacturing specifications.

Plaintiffs added that the finished roof was in poor condition and needed to be removed. They sued for breach of contract.

The lawsuit seeks a refund of the money paid to the defendant and an additional $19,000 to cover moving expenses, or $41,000 in total.

In its response filed in April 2022, the defendant contended that the plaintiffs failed to establish sufficient facts to establish a claim for relief and that they failed to take reasonable steps to reduce or minimize the damage.

The case went to mediation in January, but on April 21, the court issued an order setting a trial for Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
