TIFTON — The Tift County Board of Education has contracted Campbell Construction and Roofing for the replacement of the roofs of J.T. Reddick Elementary and Omega Elementary.
Board members voted unanimously to award the project, priced at $64,610, to the local contractor at their Oct. 10 meeting.
TCS Director of Maintenance and Operations Allen Martin explained that the sections of roofing over the kitchens of both elementary schools were in horrible shape and needed replacing.
He reported that two bids had been received from the project, one from Campbell and the other from Recovery Roofing, based in Tallahassee, at $154,285.
Martin noted that both contractors had turned in the proper documentation, but balked at the bid from Recovery, recommending Campbell instead due to the significantly lower price.
This sentiment was seconded by BOE chair Jonathan Jones, who stated Campbell had worked for the school system before.
Once the award of contract was approved, Martin reported that the project would begin as soon as possible.
