BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Bend roofing dealer RoofLine Supply and Delivery held its second annual Fastest Roofer competition at its facility in southeast Bend.

The contest pits several local roofing contractors in central Oregon against each other to see who can build and take down a mock roof the quickest for a cash prize.

“We’re hosting this because we want to show our customers that we really appreciate them,” said Iden Asato, RoofLine Office Manager.

The fastest roofer wins $3,000, second place gets $2,000 and third place gets $1,000.

“There is a certain number of square meters that each participant has to remove and install. It’s being judged this year, and we’ve got some pretty good prizes for the winners,” Asato explained.

Also helping to host the event was Pig Out BBQ Catering, which grilled attendees a free lunch that included two whole pigs, macaroni and potato salads, baked beans, buns and drinks.

And while some were there to compete, others hoped to attract business.

A Gutterglove representative set up a golf course. Sales Manager Mike Morrison said, “This is the best way to get the group of people you want to communicate with in one space at the same time, giving you more time to just talk to people and give them information about your product – – and then have a good time too.”

Asato added, “What I like best is interacting with our contractors. They bring their families, wives and children, and I just love interacting with them.”

Hundreds of people took part in the competition, along with a handful of vendors and 25 industry suppliers.

The “Fastest Roofer” competition lasted more than eight hours and consisted of several rounds.
