Precious Bankston invited Channel 2’s Larry Spruill to her Oak Forest apartment in Scottdale to show the current living conditions.

“We’ve been swamped for the past three weeks. It starts in the bathroom. It’s flooding the master bedroom and kitchen,” Bankston said.

There was water on the bathroom floor and it was even worse in the kitchen. There were large holes in her floor, indicating plumbing issues throughout the apartment.

Bankston said she complained to management for months, but no one resolved the issues until she took matters into her own hands.

“I called code enforcement. I made a social media post. I said I wasn’t going to pay rent this month,” she said.

Bankston also contacted Channel 2 Action News.

“They finally came out. They ripped out the bottoms. They tore down the walls. They took out my sink and cabinets and expect my kids to live in them. They refused to let us stay in a hotel or move to another unit,” she said.

TREND STORIES:

Channel 2 Action News received an email from the property manager saying they were unable to offer a hotel as they were actively working to resolve the issue. However, management recommended that Bankston contact their insurance company.

“It makes me feel like I’m a failure as a mother and that I’ve failed my children,” she said.

Spruill took her and her neighbor’s concerns to management.

The office was open but locked and security told Spruill and his photographer to leave the office.

Spruill was on the phone with the property’s assistant manager.

The story goes on

She said the complex was working on the issues but declined to say more. She referred Spruill to her manager.

Spruill emailed the manager three times but received no response.
