These boots were made for plumbing

If you’ve ever wondered what Mario’s shoes would look like in real life, wonder no more. Nintendo has teamed up with shoe manufacturer Red Wing Shoes to recreate Mario’s boots as featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

To me they look like boots for a fictional Italian plumber. But really nice boots, of course – I would expect nothing less from the man known for literally traveling across galaxies trampling on sentient mushroom-like beings and evil turtles. You need good shoes for that!

If you want to check out the shoes for yourself, they’re currently on display at the Nintendo Store in New York City:

It’s here, the official Super Mario Bros. Plumbing boot. Using traditional methods and innovative materials, Red Wing’s skilled craftsmen have brought some of the magic of the Mushroom Kingdom to life. Mario’s boots are expertly crafted from Red Wing leather, with a reinforced toe box and rounded heel. Most importantly, the heel pad is made from state-of-the-art, mushroom-infused materials that celebrate Mario’s signature abilities.

Even better is the 3 minute 10 second video titled “Pixel to Stitch” which shows people actually assembling the shoes. The video is extremely serious in an obviously tongue-in-cheek way, but I find it rather comforting. It has soothing music, lots of workshop sound effects, and it’s cool to watch the shoes being made. Get cozy with some ASMRio:

Unfortunately, according to Red Wing Shoes, the shoes are not for sale. But if you’re still looking to celebrate Mario Day (that’s today, March 10th!) with some shopping therapy, there’s a bunch of deals on Switch games and accessories right now.

Update March 10th 5:51pm ET: YouTube video embedded about the creation of the shoes.
