NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 21 – The PropelA Dual Apprenticeship Project is paving the way for young Kenyan men and women, aged 18 to 30, to embark on a transformative journey into the realms of plumbing and electrical trades.

According to Lillian Mwai-Ndegwa, Swisscontact Kenya’s Country Director, the initiative emerged from careful consideration and a feasibility study conducted in 2020.

“The primary objective was to identify a sector poised for substantial growth, with a strong emphasis on private sector ownership,” she said in an interview with Capital FM.

The program, she said, is an exceptional opportunity for young Kenyans to acquire valuable skills in the plumbing and electrical trades. It aligns perfectly with the current market demands and employment opportunities in these vital sectors.

“We are excited to launch the second cohort of our PropelA Dual Apprenticeship Program,” she said, “This program is a great opportunity for young people to acquire the skills they need to find good jobs in the plumbing and electrical trades.”

The PropelA Dual Apprenticeship Project is funded by the Hilti Foundation and supported by Swisscontact’s Development Programme, co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Prospective applicants must have successfully completed their secondary education, demonstrating proficiency in the English language.

The program requires a steadfast commitment to two full years of intensive training. Importantly, those who secure a spot in the program will not bear any financial burdens, as all program fees are covered. Additionally, participants will receive a stipend to help defray living expenses during their training.

The program’s unique structure combines classroom-based theoretical learning with hands-on practical experience. This comprehensive approach ensures that participants are well-equipped not only with the knowledge required but also with the practical skills essential to excel in their chosen field.
