CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The holidays have been anything but merry for Amanda Mongno.
“I’ve had to stay at hotels; I’ve had to stay at friend’s places,” she said.
It’s a frustrating situation she said started a couple of weeks ago.
“I had an issue where I took a shower and noticed none of the water was going down,” Mongno said. “I called the maintenance line, and I explained what was going on. So, two days later, not even right away, they sent Charlotte Plumbing out, and Charlotte Plumbing deemed that the issue was a root blockage from the oak tree.”

Mongno lives on Cricketeer Drive in the University Park North area of Charlotte. She said the plumbers had to bust a pipe open to get the water to drain properly. Mongno claims her property management company, Evernest, was sent an estimate.
“I guess my landlord didn’t get back to me but sent someone else out for a separate estimate,” Mongno mentioned.
However, she claims that was two weeks ago. Since then, she said she hasn’t heard back.
“It has been two weeks of me emailing every day, calling every day with no response to what’s happening. Charlotte Plumbing told me not to use the water because I can’t,” Mongno said.

She said to make matters worse, there’s an odor.
“The blockage of where the oak tree is where they burst the pipe — it just smells horrible. I feel bad when the mailman walks by because I can see they’re dodging it,” Mongno explained.
Mongno reached out to WCNC Charlotte, and we did some digging. We found out Evernest manages thousands of properties in well over two dozen cities across the United States, with numerous listings in Charlotte alone.
“I don’t understand how a landlord can do that to someone when it’s such a health hazard,” Mongno said.
WCNC Charlotte reached out to Evernest to get answers about this situation but hasn’t heard back yet.
