According to Mr. Ajao Matthew Sunday, a plumber with more than a decade of experience in the practice, many plumbers specialize in selling plumbing supplies and doing plumbing work because the business is so lucrative these days.

“Over time, we plumbers have come to realize that we cannot survive by providing services alone. “Selling some of these materials is something big,” he said.

Ajao recommends that anyone interested in selling plumbing supplies should have a basic understanding of how some of the supplies are attached, as some customers were looking for ways to fix such supplies if they were not purchased from the plumber.

While interior fittings in the kitchen such as sinks are considered to have different costs/prices, water cisterns, showers and faucets in bathrooms and toilets need to be fitted with pipes etc. by plumbers.

Some of these plumbing materials are a bit expensive, but others are also cheap depending on the durability, quality, and cost of the material. Also, the most commonly used plumbing pipe materials are copper, PVC, CPVC, and PEX.

Sanitary materials such as cutters cost N50,000-N70,000, reciprocating saws N7,000-N8,000, wrench size (12) costs N2,500/N3,000, jigsaws N2,500/N3,000.

Other materials like; Pipes and fittings, buckets for storing fittings, pipe wrenches, reciprocating saw, circular saw, angle drill, cordless screwdriver, propane torch, cast iron pipe cutter, extension cords, pipe tape/teflon tape and trucks. Therefore, factors such as demand, competition, prices and costs determine the sale of these sanitary materials.

The location and demand for plumbing materials can vary depending on factors such as new construction projects, renovations, and the overall investment budget earmarked for a project. Therefore, conducting market research is crucial to understand the current and forecast demand for sanitary ware.

Likewise, identifying target customers, including homeowners, contractors, plumbers, or businesses. Understand their needs, preferences and buying habits to adapt your offers and marketing strategies accordingly. This is the key to the survival of such a company.
