Gabutto Burger, a Japanese-style fast food restaurant, is closing its Elgin location.

Owners announced on Facebook and Instagram posts this week that they could not sustain the increasing costs of operation and had no choice but to shut down the business. They thanked their customers and said they will miss them.

Gabutto Burger opened at 2502 N. Randall Road in March 2020. Prior to that it had been located on Golf Road in Rolling Meadows for three years and as part of Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights, where it opened in 2009, according to published reports.

The restaurant featured Asian fusion dishes and burgers made with “Japanese twists.”

Former Elmhurst Fire Chief Bill Anaszewicz has been sworn in as the new fire chief of Carpentersville.

Anaszewicz was interim fire chief in Elmhurst for 18 months and chief for six months before abruptly resigning in April, according to published reports. He has been a firefighter for almost 30 years, 26 of those with the Elmhurst Fire Department.

In his letter of resignation, Anaszewicz said he was dealing with family medical issues. Five days later the city issued a statement saying he was resigning after finding a new employment opportunity.

Anaszewicz is active in MABAS Division 12, the DuPage County Fire Chiefs Association and many other fire associations, according to the Carpentersville village newsletter. He replaces John-Paul Schilling, who resigned in August after serving as chief for more than seven years.
