The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of six partial spools of copper pipe from Don Smith Plumbing, 1936 Herky Horine Road, southwest of Pevely. The Sheriff’s Office would not say how much the copper pipe was worth but said he was at least a $750 felony amount.

A manager for the plumbing company called the Sheriff’s Office at approximately 1 p.m. Aug. 11 about the theft and said that when he arrived to work at 7 a.m., the rear workshop garage door was open and the lights were on in the building, the report said.

The manager said he believed an employee may have failed to lock the garage door when the business closed at about 4 p.m. on Aug. 10. He said five spools of copper pipe were missing from the workshop and another spool was missing from a work truck, according to the report.

Deputies found a small tear in the rubber surrounding the workshop’s door and black scuff marks on the door frame, the report said.

As of Aug. 22, none of the stolen copper pipe had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the burglary to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
